FIFTY STATES CONVERSATION
The FIFTY STATES CONVERSATION is an initiative by the Epic Theater Ensemble to explore the implications of educational segregation and provide a meaningful discussion with the community. To celebrate the anniversary of the landmark Brown vs. Board Supreme Court case, Epic Theatre and its partners will host screenings of NOTHING ABOUT US—a rigorous, passionate and hilarious exploration of educational segregation written and performed by those most affected and least consulted: NYC Public High School students—across all fifty states. GCAMA is proud to partner with Epic Theater to host a screening and community conversation on Wednesday, April 28th at 5-6PM ET for the Charlotte community.
The goal of our screening with the Fifty States Conversation is to provide a space for meaningful discourse on educational equity and school integration in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the landmark Swann vs. CMS Supreme Court case, which affirmed busing as a mechanism for school integration. The performance and conversation will interrogate our modern education system in its perpetuation of segregation in Charlotte's schools.
